Sale of Flanders Mansion
Residents and visitors alike all agree that Carmel is a beautiful place to live and visit. One place that is especially lovely to visit is Flanders Mansion. The Flanders family built the home in 1920 and in 1972 Carmel-by-the-Sea purchased the house and its surrounding acreage.
The land around the Flanders house became part of the city’s Mission Trail Preserve. The Padres would walk this trail from the Carmel Mission to Monterey and this is just a part of the historic nature of this land. Walking this trail one will enjoy the meadow, forest and amazing views of the Mission and Point Lobos. Next to the Flanders Mansion is the Rowntree Native Plant garden which is also city-owned parkland.
According to the ruling by Superior Court Judge, Robert O’Farrell on February 21st, the historic Flanders Mansion cannot be sold by the City of Carmel unless it can prove it would be too expensive for the city to keep and that the sale is okayed in a public vote. A complete story on the halt of the sale of Flanders Mansion may be read in this weeks

This is a story that just keeps on going, but looks to be coming to an end.
